Different Types of Water You Can Drink

Drinking enough water per day offers your body multiple benefits, including regulating your body’s temperature, keeping your joints lubricated, and improving your cognitive abilities, mood and sleep. Essentially, your body relies on water to survive and perform at its optimum levels.

Most people are subconsciously aware of the different types of water but not conscious enough to note the difference. Therefore, when choosing water, most people base their preference on the taste, availability, and price, not because they can understand the difference between water A and water B. Nevertheless, it’s helpful to be aware that different types of water have a difference, especially in their nutrient value.

Different Types of Water You Can Drink

Control your drinking water by understanding the difference in each type of water.

Tap Water

Tap water is water that directly flows from your bathroom or kitchen faucet. The source can be a stream or groundwater like a well. Before drinking the water, it will go through purification before reaching your faucet as there are unacceptable levels of artificial contaminants.

If more than 25 people consume the water, the water source is considered a public water system that should meet the safe drinking water act (SDWA) standards. This federal act gives the United States Environment Agency (EPA) the right to standardize the contaminants in the drinking water.

Glacier Water or Spring Water

Water from the glacier or spring is naturally supplied by mother nature. The water from these spots is generally safe to drink directly from the source without going through the community purification system.

The water is free from contaminants, with a refreshing natural taste.

Mineral Water

Mineral water is pulled from a mineral spring and contains natural minerals such as magnesium, sulfur, and calcium. The water has a characteristic salty taste due to the minerals, and it’s presumed to be the healthiest water for consumption.

The mineral composition will vary between brands because of the water source.

Purified Water

Purified water can come from any source, tap or spring. It’s then filtered for purification purposes by going through various additional steps to remove impurities to make it safe for drinking.

Apart from drinking, purified water is suitable for medical and industrial uses and can also perform other household tasks such as cooking.

Alkaline Water

Alkaline water has a higher pH level than regular drinking water. For example, the standard drinking water pH level is 7.0, while alkaline water presents an 8.0 or 9.0 pH level.

Advocates of alkaline water believe that this type of water helps neutralize the acid in our bodies for people with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and acid reflux.

Flavored or Infused Water

Infused water is sweetened with artificial sweeteners and sugar. In addition, you can naturally infuse water flavor with vegetables such as cucumbers or fruits like oranges, strawberries, or limes.

However, large consumption of artificially infused water is linked with obesity and may have adverse effects on people with diabetes.
